Sports Minister Anurag Thakur Reviews the Preparedness for the Chess Olympiad

All Indian Chess Federation(AICF), Indian Government and Tamil Nadu government are ensuring that the forthcoming Chess Olympiad scheduled at Chennai from 27th July to 10th August, the first one ever in Indian history is one that would be memorable for the country, the participants and the following spectators.

Bharat Singh Chauhan, Secretary AICF met with Indian Sports Minister Anurag Thakur to apprise him of the undergoing preparations for the Olympiad which have been going on in full swing. The meeting was also attended by Shri Siddharth Singh Longjam, joint secretary, sports and Under- secretary sports, Shri Pradeep A.  The hosting of the Olympiad and other arrangements were discussed in detail in this meeting.

Chauhan who has moved bag and baggage to oversee the arrangements for the Olympiad in Chennai was also in Abu Dhabi this week to attend the meeting of the International Chess Federation . Racing with the clock to host the Olympiad, Chauhan said” Things are under control and we are moving at a fast and efficient pace. The In all probability we will be ready for India’s biggest spectacle much before the scheduled time. We are immensely grateful to the central government as they have offered all possible assistance”

India as the host of the Olympiad has a bonus in the form of an extra team in both the Open and Women’s section. Tomorrow after the official FIDE Rating is released, the Indians teams for the Olympiad will also be announced.
